Piacenza in Emilia Romagna - Palazzo Gotico
Palazzo Comunale detto il "Gotico". Domina lo spazio principe del centro cittadino, piazza Cavalli. Fu voluto nel 1281 da Alberto Scoto, capo dei mercanti e signore ghibellino della città. Lo progettarono maestranze locali e forse comacine. Di stile lombardo ogivale, con la cornice ornata di archetti, la merlatura ghibellina a coda di rondine, la torretta centrale che racchiude il campanone e le due torrette laterali, è un insigne esempio di architettura civile medioevale. Su un basamento marmoreo, aperto da una loggia gotica con archi e sesto acuto, si imposta il piano superiore, dalle forme romaniche, con archi a pieno centro traforati da snelle trifore.
Il contrasto tra il marmo rosa del piano inferiore e il cotto decorato a motivi geometrici dei finestroni superiori crea un effetto di sorprendente eleganza. Una Madonna col Bambino, del sec. XIII, un tempo posata in una nicchia della facciata è ora conservata al Museo Civico, e sostituita da una copia.
