Museo Archeologico - Firenze in Toscana
Il Museo Archeologico, come molti altri musei fiorentini, trae le sue origini dalle raccolte medicee e lorenesi di antichità, all’origine esposte con gli altri tesori d’arte nella Galleria degli Uffizi, e trasferite dal 1888 nell’attuale sede del Palazzo della Crocetta (costruito nel 1620 da Giulio Parigi). Il suo nucleo centrale è tutt’oggi quello relativo alla civiltà etrusca, che già nel Quattrocento interessava Cosimo il Vecchio de’ Medici; ma è con Cosimo I Granduca (sec. XVI) che praticamente si formano le attuali collezioni, incrementate dai suoi successori (fra i quali spicca il cardinale Leopoldo) che raccolsero opere insigni quali la Chimera di Arezzo, la Minerva d’Arezzo, l’Arringatore.
La raccolta fu continuata poi dai Lorena a cui dobbiamo la formazione dell'importantissima sezione egiziana, ma anche l’arricchimento della sezione etrusca che fu ordinata per serie e studiata dall’antiquario della corte lorenese.
