Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, San Miniato - Pisa in Toscana
Fu fondata nella seconda metà del secolo XIII da una comunità di frati Umiliati che scelse il punto più alto dell’antico castello, in cui già sorgeva una chiesa dedicata a San Michele.
L’edificio fu ampliato nel corso del secolo XVI e dell’originale costruzione gotica rimane parte dell’abside poligonale ed il campanile trecentesco, mentre la facciata è del secolo XIX. All’interno sono visibili tracce di affreschi quattrocenteschi di scuola fiorentina e un tabernacolo gotico opera di Neri di Fioravante, del 1381. Entro il tabernacolo si conserva un altorilievo in legno policromo raffigurante la “Madonna del Rosario” risalente agli inizi del secolo XIV, detta “La Madre dei bimbi”, alla quale sono stati attribuiti numerosi miracoli. La pieve rappresenta il Santuario mariano della Diocesi di San Miniato.
Ogni anno si svolgono solenni festeggiamenti dal 13 al 21 luglio. Recentemente è divenuta la mèta di coppie giapponesi che si sposano con rito cattolico, anche se riadattato.
