Isole Eolie - Le Necropoli
La necropoli classica e’ una delle piu’ ricche della Sicilia. In quest’ultimo cinquantennio scavi sistematici hanno recuperato i corredi di circa 3.000 tombe, ora esposti nel Museo Eoliano. Le piu’ antiche risalgono al VI secolo a.C., ai decenni successivi alla fondazione della Lipara greca, e presentano ceramiche corinzie, attiche a vernice nera e di altre fabbriche della Grecia. Particolarmente ricche le tombe del V, del IV e del III secolo a.C. a inumazione con sarcofago di terracotta, di mattoni crudi o di pietra oppure a cremazione, in alcune delle quali sono stati rinvenuti grandi crateri e altri vasi figurati o policromi del “Pittore di Lipari” e vasi decorati nello stile Gnathia. Piu’ povere e quasi sempre a cappuccina di tegole sono le tombe dell’avanzato ellenismo, successive alla distruzione del 251 a.C. Le tombe di eta’ romana (I secolo a.C. - II secolo d.C.) sono ricche di bronzi, di vetri, di lucerne figurate.
