Le parc archéologique de baratti et populonia - Toscane
Populonia était une ville étrusque, l’un des centres les plus importants de l’antiquité en ce qui concerne le façonnement et la commercialisation du fer. Le charme de ce bourg perché au sommet d’une colline encerclée par la mer, est inénarrable.
Les murailles médiévales construites pour se défendre des pirates et la Rocca, édifiée dans la première moitié du XV siècle, recèlent des venelles pavées, de petites échoppes et un musée privé où se trouvent des vestiges étrusques et romains recueillis dans les environs et au fond de la mer. Une route surplombant un merveilleux panorama mène de Populonia au golfe de Baratti, où subsistent d’importants témoignages de l’époque étrusque.
